Jay Wielenga ’82 Vice President for Advancement

Jay Wielenga was tapped to lead Northwestern’s advancement office in 2009 after serving first as the college’s alumni director and then its director of development. An experienced fundraiser and Northwestern alum, he is also a graduate of the National Planned Giving Institute and a member of the Christian Stewardship Association and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

Kristin Rucks meets with current and prospective donors and offers leadership to help the college achieve its Northwestern Fund, campaign and planned giving goals. A Northwestern College graduate, she spent three years as an admissions counselor for her alma mater before becoming director of admissions and marketing for Presbyterian Homes and Services in Arden Hills, Minnesota. She then served as the marketing director for Sodexo food services at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota, and, most recently, as the community relations director for Heritage of Foley in Foley, Minnesota.

Aletha Beeson works with events hosted by the advancement office and provides support for a variety of special projects. A Northwestern College graduate, she has held a variety of roles at her alma mater, serving the education and theatre departments as well as the student life and president’s offices.

Mary Beltman provides secretarial support for Northwestern’s advancement officers and updates the college’s database of alumni and friends. She is a Briar Cliff University graduate.

Ron De Jong works part time for the advancement office, calling on key donors. He is a Northwestern College graduate who served his alma mater for nearly 40 years as an admissions counselor, director of admissions, and vice president overseeing admissions, financial aid and public relations.


Harold Hoftyzer Northwestern Fund Coordinator

Harold Hoftyzer recruits, trains, supervises and mentors the student phonathon callers and coordinates Northwestern's Business, Industry and Professional Fund Drive. He previously served the college as the women’s golf coach, president of the Red Raider Club, and campus visit coordinator for the admissions office.


Cornelius (Corky) Koerselman ’82 Advancement Officer

A lifetime member of the Reformed Church in America, Corky Koerselman has served as a member of his congregation's consistory, a representative to the East Sioux Classis, and a delegate to General Synod. The Northwestern graduate and former member of the college's Board of Trustees calls on churches and individual donors and works with NWC's alumni board.

Bev VanDe Griend serves as the advancement office manager and assistant to the vice president for advancement. She also handles the receipt process for all contributions to Northwestern.


Cornie Wassink ’73 Director of Planned Giving

In addition to managing Northwestern’s planned giving program, Cornie Wassink is in charge of the endowed scholarship program and involved with capital fund raising. The NWC graduate is a Chartered Life Underwriter, a member of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), a state board member for Leave A Legacy Iowa, and past president of the Planned Giving Council of Siouxland.


Tara Woodward ’13 Advancement Officer

Tara Woodward helps Northwestern meet its fundraising goals by building relationships with alumni, parents, and friends of the college. She joined the advancement office staff after working as a tax and audit professional for a local accounting firm. While a Northwestern student, she helped with the college’s annual phonathon, contacting donors and recruiting and training new student callers.
